May Devotions

May is the month of Mary, our Mother. Find out about how we will mark this month in the parish.

The practice of dedicating the month of May to Our Lady was popularised especially by the Rosary Encyclicals of Pope Leo XIII. The May devotion in its present form originated in Rome where Fr Latomia of the Roman College of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), to counteract infidelity and immorality among the students, made a vow to devote the month of May to Our Lady (end of 18th century). This spread to other Jesuit Colleges and throughout the Church.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of the Church and therefore the example as well as guide and inspiration of everyone who, in and through the Church, seeks to be like her, the servant of God and obedient agent of the Holy Spirit.

During May we will have the Rosary followed by Benediction at 4pm on Sundays as well as Rosary before each daily Mass except on Wednesdays.
