Year of St Joseph (8th Dec 2020- 8th Dec 2021). Pope Francis, proclaimed a special “Year of St Joseph,” on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception 2020 and it extends to the same feast in 2021.At the conclusion of his Letter, he adds another prayer to St Joseph, which he encourages all of us to pray together. We will recite this Prayer after Mass concludes each day to mark the Year of St Joseph. There are other Prayers to St Joseph in St Thomas website under the title Prayers. A votive Mass to St Joseph will be celebrated each Wednesday out with the Liturgical Seasons of Lent/Easter/Advent/Christmas. Wednesday is traditionally the day we pray to St Joseph.

“Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage,
and defend us from every evil.”  Amen
. (Pope Francis)

Think Vocations: “This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him.” Are you listening to him? Is he calling you to serve his people in priesthood or consecrated life? Please contact Fr. John Morrison tel: 01418895056 or e-mail vocations@rcdop.org.uk

SCIAF Lenten Appeal: To contribute to SCIAF this year, you can do so by either sending a cheque to SCIAF, 7 West Nile Street, Glasgow G1 2PR or donating securely via their website www.sciaf.org.uk  We will not be accepting monies/coins at the Church house as Fr Joe/Jonathan have not the time to sit and count monies and secondly,  money can transmit disease causing strains of bacteria or viruses.

Moodies Funeral Directors: A big thank you to Moodies Funeral Directors who gave a donation to St Johns/St Thomas towards  the cost of supplying hand sanitiser and also for the personal donation they give to the parish after each funeral.

New Gift Aid Envelopes (St Johns) Because of the Lockdown many Gift Aid envelopes and Non- Gift Aid envelopes were not collected. Given the present circumstances, extra care and attention much be given to the Parish budget. It costs the parish £800 each year to buy envelopes for collections. To aid our budgeting this year the following changes will have to be made:

Envelopes will be ordered for the following groups only:

Present registered gift aiders. (those who pay tax) containing envelopes for your weekly and second collections/monthly building fund.

Present registered gift aiders paying first collection via Standing Order (those who pay tax) containing envelopes, for second collections/monthly building fund only.

Thank you to all those who regularly donate to the parishes. Your donations are essential and greatly received especially during these challenging times. Because of your continued generosity you are guaranteeing a sustainable future for your parishes.

Presentation on Blessed Titus Brandsma: This will take place on Sunday the 7th of March @ 4pm. To register contact ruth.preston@carmelite.org.uk or telephone 07849 596572

When Blessed Titus Brandsma was accused by some of his students of speaking about God in all his teachings in philosophy, he responded: “I can’t help it, that in all things, God gives witness to himself”. In all things God gives witness to himself: in all creation, in all that is; light, shadow and darkness. In reflecting on the life and teachings of this martyr, we can learn that the way he did not succumb in the cruelty of Camp Amersfoort and Dachau, is fundamentally embedded in his spirituality, which is thoroughly Carmelite

Justice& Peace Scotland: Discussion on the impact of the pandemic drawing on the experience of our panel. The panel includes: Prof. Stephen McKinney (University of Glasgow) Fr. Basil Clark VE (Archdiocese of St. Andrews & Edinburgh, Danny Collins (National President, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Scotland).

Sunday 7th March (4.30pm – 6pm).  Please book to join the event here Poverty & Pandemic Tickets,  Eventbrite.
