In the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, St Bartholomew appears only as a name on the list of the Apostles. In St John’s Gospel the name St Bartholomew does not appear, but the name of Nathanael is identified by scripture scholars as him. The assumption is that this one person is indicated by two names. Tradition claim that after the Resurrection he preached in Armenia and India and was martyred in Armenia.
