St John 12: 24-26

When Jesus says “unless grain a wheat falls on the ground and dies, it remains only a single grain, but if it dies, it yields a great harvest”, Jesus is identifying himself with this action. Jesus is the grain of wheat that must die, to produce the fruit of eternal life. As a planted seed in the ground must decay before it sprouts new life and mysteriously life is released from its shell, producing thousands of other grains, so Jesus endures death to bring us into eternal life. Through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, many souls are born into God.

Jesus then continues to say that it is the same for us, we must die to ourselves to receive the fulness of life from God and become in turn channels of that life to others. To accompany and follow Jesus we must seek and find him, get to know him and then serve him and live with him.
