Bishop Fulton Sheen

“With his generosity vastly greater than that of man, God only wants an opportunity to empty His treasures into our souls. As the sun never stops shining, though we cannot always see its rays, so God is always shedding His graces and His healing powers on each one of us. The more, empty the soul is of self, the greater room in it for God.

Nowadays, many people want God but on their own terms. It is significant that Judas, the grumbler amongst the apostles, was the one who did not persevere. Sanctify the moment, the Now. Each minute of life has its own peculiar duty, regardless of the appearance that minute might take. The Now moment is the moment of salvation. Each complaint against it is a defect, each act of resignation a victory.

God made this world too small for us. Our desires are greater than our realisations, our dreams are sweeter than life and our hopes vaster than love. We have an ocean of desires, but only a cup to dip into the vast expanse. We were made for the infinite. We have wings on our soul, but we beat them against the cage of our body and the trivialities of our cities.

We are not only pursuing, but being pursued, not only seeking the Infinite but being sought by it. The Good Shepherd is always in search of His lost sheep.”
