St John 17:20-26
In today’s Gospel, we come to the last part of Jesus’s High Priestly Prayer. Jesus as the Eternal Son of God, sees at that historical moment in the upper room, all the future believers of every age and time. He therefore prays for us, our families and loved ones. He sees us and presents us to his Father. We should use this prayer often and what Jesus prayed, will come to pass in all of us.
Jesus prays that we have that oneness that He shares as the Father’s Beloved Son and that through this grace we become partakers of his divine nature, sharers in his Supernatural life. By means of the Church and the Sacraments that Jesus left us as his gift, we continue through Jesus’s eternal presence to experience and know the Father’s love and the indivisible unity of the Trinity.
This prayer should fill us with awe and joy, knowing that it a prayer that Jesus invokes before the Father on our behalf and one that we should try to contemplate and meditate on, as often as possible.
