In June, all monies donated to the St Anthony’s Box will be used to support seminary training in India.
A threat to unity?
Aid to Church in Need (ACN) reports that 740 attacks against Christians took place in India in 2017, a sharp rise from the previous high of 365 in 2016. The rise to power of the Nationalist Political Party (BJP) has emboldened extremists who see India as a Hindu country for Hindus. Christians are often portrayed as a threat to national unity.
ACN is helping to support communities under attack. They are also helping to train seminarians in poor dioceses, providing bicycles for catechists travelling to remote areas and reprinting Bibles in an area where Christian homes found with a Bible in them were burned down. Buxar, the country’s poorest diocese, has only 15 diocesan priests for 25,000 Catholic faithful and 10 seminarians.
St Thomas: Disciple of India
Our Parish Patron brought the faith to India which gives us a special connection to the people of India. To support seminary training and diocesan priests in Buxar, all monies from the St Anthony’s Box during the Month of June will be sent to ACN and their appeal.
Prayer for the Church in India
Lord, today your children in India are suffering through religious persecution and oppression. For their caste they are trampled upon and cast aside, for their faith despised and rejected. Console them in their sorrows, restore their lost dignity and renew their hope. Help them keep faith in you, the Resurrection and the Life. Amen.
Our Lady help of Christians pray for them.
St Thomas the Apostle, pray for them.
St Teresa of Calcutta, pray for them.
All Saints of India, pray for them.
